Quarterback Collins gets second chance

Titans quarterback Kerry Collins has been called a journeyman, and on his fifth NFL stop, the label fits.

At the beginning of this season the Titans called on Collins to bail them out of a precarious spot. How he finishes the job will go a long way in determining what label is placed on his legacy.

Collins' next big assignment comes today at LP Field, where he leads the Titans into an AFC divisional playoff game against the Ravens.

A year ago the Titans entered the postseason with Vince Young, a quarterback full of potential but with plenty to learn. . Collins replaced him in Week 2, in part because Young clearly hadn't learned enough.

So now it's Collins, a player rich with experience and with a Super Bowl trip under his belt, leading the way. Today marks his seventh postseason start.

"His experience is so valuable,He has been in the big games and knows what it takes. I've never seen him rattled, and don't expect to.'' Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger said.

Collins, who's in the last year of his contract with the Titans, isn't sure what next season will bring.

If he remains a starter, in Tennessee or somewhere else, he could move into the top 10 in career passing yards with another year like this one, when he passed for 2,676 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He is currently ranked 14th in passing yard.
